Here's the problem(s)
You're pulling more than your weight. You're donating tons in school supplies and other means. I would love if your child was in my wife's class (she teaches elementary school).

I understand why you'd be frustrated that so much money is going to the school (in the form of taxes and donations) but they're still asking for more money via fundraisers, and they basically employ the children as slaves to do the majority of the leg work. Then, they also guilt the parents into buying crap they don't want or need so that a percentage can go to the school. However, the answer is not to cut teacher salaries (at least if you're in Utah). If you're curious you can go to Utah's Right to Know and look at the salary of teachers in public schools. They don't make much (particularly if they're in Alpine School District). Then also consider that most teachers spend a portion (and in some cases a large portion) of their salary on school supplies and things for the students as well. In a typical year my wife will spend close to $1,000 on things for her students or classroom.

I see two problems: (some) administration, and (some) parents who don't contribute enough. Administration can make a lot of money. It's a thankless job, and if they do it well, they can do a lot to contribute to a good environment for students. If they don't do it well they make everyone else's job harder and escape most, if not all, criticism. Alpine School District in particular is just waaaaaaaaaay too big. Biggest school district in the nation. Horribly run. So some administrators need to take a pay cut or need to do something different to earn the pay they're getting.

Some parents just mooch off the system. They've got enough kids that their taxable income is low and so they don't contribute their fair share via taxes. They also refuse to buy even the most basic supplies for their children (pencils, notebooks, etc). Parents like you have to fill the gap that these parents leave, and teachers are left holding the bag for any gap still remaining after good parents have done what they can.
