Tuesday afternoon my ear started hurting. It was getting worse as the evening wore on, so at 7:30 I went to the Instacare so I could get there before it closed rather than wait for the next day. Sure enough, ear infection. I was given amoxicillin and some ear numbing drops (to help with pain until the amoxicillin kicked in). He also told me to take ibuprofen as needed for pain.

Right now it's been not quite 40 hours since I took the first dose of amoxicillin, and the pain isn't subsiding at all. It's significantly worse than it was Tuesday when I went in, but has stayed pretty much the same from yesterday afternoon to now. There is pressure in the ear, and pressing around the ear hurts. The drops don't seem to help much. The ibuprofen or tylenol do help some (I've been alternating taking ibuprofen and tylenol).

Should I be concerned that I'm not getting any relief yet? How long should I give the amoxicillin to work before I go back to the Dr.? Is 48 hours enough? Should I wait until tomorrow to see if it feels better?
