The guy who read it did a great job. There are a lot of swears so you may not want to listen with the kiddos around. (or the wife!)
On its own, the movie was a solid 3.5 out of 4 stars for me. However, if you liked the movie for the science, you will absolutely love the book.
Some things are already outdated, but the science is pretty solid. (Example of outdated: We recently learned there actually is water in the Martian soil. Watney might not have needed to do the dangerous hydrazine solution.)
In fact, the most fake thing about the book, and the movie, is the reason the astronauts had to leave in the first place. The Martian atmosphere is so thin that a 125 MPH wind would feel like a 1MPH wind does on earth. Later in the book, you get a better example of a true Martian storm. Sadly, it didn't make the movie. I think I get why, but I wished they could have put it in because it demonstrates the true danger Watney was in and how cool his "science skills" were.
