A sincere and loving warning for my bicycle-riding friends and family:
I'll be direct. If you're riding your bike in AF Canyon in the evening when the sun is directly ahead, you're insane. Stop it. I certainly recognize that you have every right to be there (and I have a right to walk a tightrope over a pool of sharks with frickin' laser beams on their heads), but be aware that you are *100% INVISIBLE* to trailing traffic while in the sun.

I just now followed a cyclist toward the mouth of the canyon, and even though I knew he was directly in front of me, he *completely disappeared* when we emerged from shaded areas, despite my clean windshield and polarized sunglasses. No idea at all where that dude was! He was extremely fortunate that I spotted him while shade permitted, and passing him was a more nerve-wracking exercise in timing than he could ever appreciate. It wouldn't have taken another driver more than a blink or a short, blind corner to result in tragedy. Now, again, I realize you'll be quick to defend your rights and counter with, "Well, maybe the dadgum CARS should be more careful." And you'll be right. I'll make sure the survivors understand that.
