Honestly I am not understanding any of the logic that it's better for Taysom, BYU fans or anyone else if he chooses to go somewhere else for football next year.
If Taysom's #1 priority in making the decision is Tanner Mangum's career numbers than maybe. But if he is interested in his own success and development then BYU is the only choice that makes sense.
First: Anywhere he goes there will be a QB controversy, and if he decided to go to another school, he would have to start from square 1 in earning the respect and trust of his teammates, coaches, fans etc. He would have to learn a new system, language, and team..
If he returns:
BYU coaches love him and know him.
He knows the offense and all of his teammates strengths and weaknesses
He has a rapport with his receivers and a rhythm with his RBs
He has the trust of the Athletic Directer, Fans etc.
He is building a legacy at BYU. Not just a season. (We all like Jordan Leslie, but his legacy is with UTEP)
As far as BYU goes, we might have a little awkwardness in regards to Taysom/Tanner...but if you care about the team you work though stuff like that and realize that by having both of those guys you have wone of the strongest and most special arms in the country AND one of the best athletes and running QB's we've ever seen. (and his accuracy looked to have made huge strides in the first half of the NEB game.)
All my best goes to Taysom, he is the single most exciting athlete I've seen in person. His hurdle vs Utah State absolutely floored me in the moment and his record night(s) vs Texas are highlights for me as a BYU fan.
I look forward to seeing how the BYU coaching staff handles having two heisman list making QBs on its roster next year
