5 is right on the cusp of watching the entire game
especially if broken up with snacks, a bathroom break and running around the concourse a bit, maybe a game program to flip through. I sometimes took mine to the top of the stadium to climb around on vacant benches when he got restless. He liked hearing explanations about what was happening on the field. So I would use other activities as a last resort, only if you find your kid isn't really into the experience.

To answer your question, they'll check your bag to check for contraband but depending on the person are pretty flexible about letting in food for a kid. It will be more memorable for the kid to buy snacks there, and even the anticipation of standing in that line is a good way to use some of the downtime.
