'To me, BYU had always a special place in my heart,' he said.

Uchtdorf and his wife never attended BYU, he said, but a daughter did. Years ago, the Uchtdorf's traveled from Germany to Provo for their daughter's graduation, he said, and were impressed by the spirit there.

'Little did we know that 19 years later, we would be here again attending another commencement,' he said. 'This time with better seats.'"
