1320 this morning had Dave Bartoo on the program, and he thought BYU was an easy pick against Cinci this Friday. The hosts were surprised (and I was as well admittedly) with Bartoo's confidence in the pick. His reasoning was that Tuberville-coached teams are terrible on the road. So I did a little digging.
Tuberville has been the head coach at Cinci since December 2012, so I looked at the 2013 and 2014 seasons in addition this one. Of the 8 losses Cinci has suffered under his tenure, 6 were on the road (including bowl games). The 2 losses at home were to a top 25 Louisville program in 2013 and Temple this year that is currently 5-0 (including a solid win over Penn State).
Just as a point of reference, I also looked at his tenure at Texas Tech. His 3 seasons there were very balanced in terms of where the losses occurred. He did win both bowl games they went to at Texas Tech.
So, that makes me feel a little better about the Cinci game on Friday for BYU, although I still don't think the pick is as simple as Bartoo made it sound like. Maybe when I have more time I'll look into how Cinci performs on the road vs. home. I still feel a lot better about the game hearing that pretty much every defensive player should be back for the Cinci game, and that Tanner was healthy enough to practice a little today.
