I'm driving a bit of an older minivan (2007 Town and Country), and someone backed into it while it was parked at Walmart. My wife and I don't really care about its cosmetic appearance, at this point, so the adjustor sent us a check for $2150 that we'll just bank. Keep the dent and the money. Sweet, right? But we then took it to our mechanic to check a coolant leak two days later, and bingo! It has a blown head gasket. It's not related to the accident, and it cost $1900 to get it back on the road. Now we just don't know whether we're really lucky because the dent paid for the necessary engine repair, or really unlucky because a crappy engine robbed us of our windfall.
