BYU's Value to Big 12 - Tier 3 Network, Phoenix
I think some BYU people are missing what BYU really brings to the table that will benefit the big 12. Here are two big factors I think are being overlooked.

1. Tier 3 conference network. Big 10 and SEC make a bunch of money on their conference networks. Problem is, Texas has the Longhorn network, Oklahoma makes a bunch of tier 3 money, and Kansas makes a bunch from tier 3 basketball games. All 3 don't want to give up more money than they can make from a conference network. That hurts Iowa St and the other small schools, as with only 5 schools with a very limited footprint, you simply don't have enough content to sell. Add BYU and another team, and you have expanded the state footprint that can collect cable fees. Suddenly, a Tier 3 network makes serious money, even without the Big 3.

2. BYU has a big fan base in the Phoenix market. Thus, the "true market" for BYU includes Phoenix, which is one of the top media markets. With a Big 12 network, you could probably get local carriage in Phoenix, which would be huge for the success of the network. That is the market we need to be advertising and pushing - not just the Utah media market.
