This wasn't drama, but, it was like a scene from Family Vacation....
Before we say grace, we go around the table and say something we're thankful for. After about 4 people it comes to my 88 yr old dad. he's hard of hearing, so, he has no idea what is going on. Everyone is staring at him and i look at him and say "daddy, it's your turn.".

He immediately launches into saying grace very earnestly. Everyone ducks their heads and listens to the prayer. I figure just let him go and we can keep going with the thank you tributes after he's done.

About 10 seconds into it my mom starts loud whispering to him "you're not supposed to say grace. You're supposed to say what you're thankful for." he stops, shares something he's thankful for and it goes on around the table.

After we're all done I ask him to say the prayer so he can be redeemed (of sorts) by doing a complete prayer. He does the earnest prayer Part II and is a bit flustered from the previous situation, so, he's sorta tripping over his words. In the end he says "We thank you for these things and say to you 'good night'".
