I'm lazy. I just pop those seals after about 2 years of use and fill them with the garden hose. Not complicated. I'm probably killing the special balance of toxins, but they run great for a few more years, then I do it all over again. In the harsh winter, I will put a trickle charger on occasionally. I even bought a portable jump battery because I travel a lot and want to be secure. I've never had to use it.
If you are in Arizona, Nevada or Texas, you should just make checking your water in your battery a routine at the beginning of each summer.
