It isn't common but can settle into a joint after a bout with something viral like a cold. It causes some swelling and pain in the tissues in the joint and can make it hard for a kid to walk while it is going on. Rest and time takes care of it... maybe some anti-inflammatory meds if your doctor deems them helpful.
