not falsely - I'll try to do a better job explaining. There are many different kinds of accounting methods that
show different things. For my company I keep 3 sets of books. Each set is legal, each set follows the rules - there are just different rules for each one (and each one serves a different purpose).
If BYU athletics has been banking away $5MM year for 10 years then why isn't anyone asking where the money is, what it's doing, and what they're saving it for. Perhaps they're saving it for a stadium upgrade or perhaps there just isn't this stash of cash.
