As I consider this past football season it really makes me happy that we are not in the MWC. I want so badly to be in some P5 because that immediately brings recognition, but look what happens when a G5 loses (Navy) and how far they fall. The best G5 programs aren't even thought about in the playoff picture. Not even mentioned anymore. The NY6 bowls have opened up, but the opportunity to play for a NC is not even in the mix.

This has been an amazing year. We are two close wins (Nebraska and BSU) from being 7-5 and we are two close losses (UCLA and Missouri) from being 11-1. That is the thrill of being a college football fan, and of watching the games. Were there some frustrating moments? Yep, USU first half, and a few others that I would rather not dwell on, but this was a fun football year, especially since Taysom and Jamaal weren't with us. Bronson was awesome. Our receivers were fun to watch, and we had some incredibly long passes for touchdowns. The deep threat was back. Next year can be much of the same.

I have no desire to ever go back to the MWC. Playing three or four games each year against them isn't my idea of fun, but it sure is nice to have won each game in double figures, even though the BSU game was far closer than that. I have loved watching BYU on the ESPN family of networks, with a little CBSSN mixed in. Every week this year, BYU was on TV. How many teams across the nation could say that? Every week!!

Independence isn't sustainable so something has to change in the next year, and I have confidence that Tom Holmoe and the BOT will make it work. I believe it will happen, but I don't know how. Thanks again for an amazing season, and with our eleventh straight bowl game. Now, to just wait for nine more months, but at least we have basketball to cheer for. Go Cougs.
