I know that it's early, BYU hasn't played any world beaters, and we can expect some freshman inconsistency, but so far, he's lived up to the hype and then some.
I don't know that I've ever seen a higher combination of skill level and basketball IQ from a BYU freshman (granted, I never saw Ainge or Cosic as freshmen - Tyler Haws was a pretty skilled freshman, but his game is not nearly as well-rounded as Emery's). At this point, my biggest question about Emery is his ceiling, given his size.
I know it's not apples to apples, but when Steph Curry went into the NBA (after a fantastic college career), I doubted he'd ever be anything more than a role player or perhaps a somewhat above average starter. It was obvious that he had a sick skill set and strong work ethic but he just didn't seem to have the physical measurables to be a dominant player at the NBA level. But despite being somewhat physically limited relative to other elite NBA players, he's evolved into a league MVP on a team that's in the BOAT discussion.
Now I'm not suggesting that Emery's ceiling is anything close to Curry's, but Curry's trajectory has made me wonder about Emery's ceiling at the college level. How far can his skill set and work ethic take him in view of some of his physical limitations?
