Something else that factors in though, for a DE Buckners stats were huge
Buckner might not have had huge stats compared to an LB, but it's a lot harder to get those kinds of stats as a DE than at LB.
Relative to expectations of his position, Buckner had a monster year. From this perspective, it makes more sense that he was viewed as the most impressive player. DE's aren't supposed to have stats like that and relative to his peers, he was probably much more impressive than Paul.
