I recognize these two books are entirely different, but hear me out...
I read Christopher McDougall's book 'Born to Run' a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it. I felt like I was learning something new (re: the Tarahumara tribe, history of running/jogging, alternative running techniques, culture of long-distance runners), and I found that implementing some of the things I learned in the book to be practical and beneficial in my life. Whereas I used to detest running and could barely get up to 2.5 miles without pain in my knees and hips, I've been running entirely pain-free now for two years and regularly run about 15-20 miles per week. I attribute some of that change to reading this book.
Another book I felt that changed my life in terms of my relationship with my wife and others around me is "The Peacegiver" by James Ferrell. I enjoyed reading the story (even though it was a fictional story) and felt like I learned some principles and techniques to help in my life.
I'm trying to find another book in a similar vein: a non-fiction book (though I'd consider fiction with a practical story/moral) where I'll learn something practical and new that I can implement in my life. I don't care so much about the topic (investing, time management, health, relationships, history), but I'm looking for suggestions of books that made you feel like you walked away from the book and really had a change of view or practice in your life once you tried it. (...and, BTW, I read the scriptures every day, so I'm very familiar with how reading those can provide practical insights and principles to change one's life for the better.)
Any good suggestions from the wealth of experience on CB?
