Sooooooooo, a friend of mine is a GP doc in Colorado. He does the usual office stuff, sore throats, broken bones,
physicals etc. Today he had what he described as the most awkward and uncomfortable situation of his professional career.
He does a lot of work physicals for a certain employer in the area. It is some type of hearing aide company and they refer each other business. Today he had a guy come in from this company for his yearly. It is a very very basic exam that includes some blood work, reflexes and listening to lungs. After he was finished he told the guy he was in good health, signed his form and got up to leave. He said that this patient was ADAMANT that he be checked for a hernia. This surprised him cause most guys hate this and it is not part of this companies usual exam. My friend explained that to him and it only made the guy angry. He said the guy demanded he be examined for a hernia and went so far as to drop his pants. At this point my friend just walked out.
People are strange.
