Walter Payton with OJ a very close second
I watched all of those guys. I never saw Sayers live, but Walter was the most fun to watch in my era (Barry Sanders was even better in the 90s). Carrying the ball like a loaf of bread, running over linebackers at his size, dancing around lineman. He was just so much fun to watch. The Bills weren't on TV enough, but OJ was a treat. Probably the best blend of power, sprinter speed, and lateral quickness/agility of any back ever. You expected him to go the distance every time he touched the ball.

Dickerson is arguably the greatest running back of all time. Does anybody match his productivity over the first eight years of a career? Exciting for sure, but not as entertaining as Walter and OJ.

Then probably Allen and Dorsett. I had some street cred going in high school when I called Allen over Walker for the Heisman before the season started. Allen had shown some flashes when spelling Charles White at USC. Sadly, Al Davis diminished his pro career by benching him in his prime. Dorsett and Allen were both long-striding, slashing runners that were super fun to watch.

Walker and Campbell were fun to watch run over much smaller defenders in their day.

I was a huge 49ers fan and Roger Craig was fun to watch, but he cost Steve Young a Super Bowl with a fumble against the Vikings trying to improve field position for a game winning chip shot field goal in the playoffs. That fumble probably tipped the scale against any chances he had of making the HOF.

You didn't mention Franco Harris. Probably because he was a boring runner.

There was another incredibly exciting running back in the 70s -- Mercury Morris of the Dolphins. And Czonka fits in the Walker, Campbell class.
