Self perception? I find it interesting that since joining the WCC the women's
sports, particularly those in which the WCC was rated ahead of the MWC, have flourished. Women's soccer was projected to struggle joining the second best conference in the west but after a fourth place finish the first year have peeled off 4 consecutive conference championships. Women's Basketball and Women's Volleyball have also excelled in the WCC even though the WCC was rated superior or equal to the MWC in those sports.

Yet Men's BBall has stagnated. I think it is partially due to self perception in relation to the opposition. The women's perception by both players and coaches was that they were joining a superior conference for their sport and they needed to up their game to compete. Is the Men's Basketball program suffering from a superiority complex? Can they not get themselves motivated for these games. It is fact that there have been far more conference game blowouts and far more inexplicable losses since joining the WCC than there ever were in the MWC. Is it simply down to mental motivation? The fact that we have competed well against the two long standing powers in this conference again supports this possibility.

Any thoughts?

(I am not suggesting going back to the MWC, just musing)
