it used to be called a "hold back"
there's invoice and the hold back. invoice is what they pay but they also get the hold back money from the mfgr. at a later date. as i recall it was in the $500-$1000 range based on value of the car. this is applicable to all dealers (at least the big 3). there may also be volume bonuses on top of that which are over and above any money made above invoice plus the holdback.
