It matters in basketball but not football
In basketball, teams will travel for (traditionally) Thursday night and Saturday afternoon games. To accommodate this, the games are scheduled at schools that are close enough together to make travel easy. It's easy to travel to Oklahoma for a Thursday game and Ok State for a Saturday Game. It is less easy to travel to Austin for a Thursday game and WV for a Saturday game.

This should not really be an issue for WV since they aren't the ones that have to travel from Austin to Morganstown for games that are 1.5 days apart. As a matter of fact, if they are scheduled as the Saturday game, one could argue that they are advantaged because the visiting team has to travel so far to play in WV.
