I think you are underestimating that aspect in both the historical and future competitive advantage. There is no doubt that polynesian players have helped BYU and other schools, but the question is whether that has been maximized. There is more room to get worse than to get better and there are certainly headwinds to getting better from the increased professionalization of the coaching ranks in terms of pay and staff sizes among competitors and the conference realignment.
