With IMDB, Yelp, Rotten Tomatoes, and Google reviews I have noticed lately that I put way too much stock into reviews. It had gotten to the point that I probably watched less than 10 movies last year because I only saw movies that were well reviewed and decided the others wouldn't be worth my time.
I've also noticed that I won't go out to a restaurant or try something new until I have thoroughly checked out the reviews online.
What a crappy way to live. I've realized lately that my time and money is not that valuable and some of my favorite things in life (esp movies) would get terrible reviews.
Lately my wife and I have been watching a lot more movies and have found a few that we really liked whose bad reviews would probably have made us never watch it. We've also tried new eating places that we love that have very average reviews.
My advice to you if you were like I was is to forget about reviews. Going to see a movie you know nothing about or going to a restaurant you don't know anything about and being very surprised and satisfied is a great feeling and happens way too seldom in this age of Yelp and IMDB.
