here are some numbers/comparisons from the 2002 Bucs
I'm biased but I take the 2002 Bucs. During the regular season this year, the Broncos pass defense allowed 60% completions, 6.2 yards/attempt, 19 TDs, 14 INTs, and 200 yards/game. That's an opponent passer rating of 78.8. In 2002, the Bucs defense allowed 51% completions, 5.5 yards/attempt, 10 TDs, 31 INTs (yes, 3 times as many INTs as TDs), and 156 yards/game. That comes out to an opponent passer rating of 48.4. Defensive rushing stats were comparable, with Denver allowing 15 fewer yards per game, but the Bucs allowing fewer TDs. The Bucs allowed 12.3 points per game, while Denver allowed 18.5.

In the playoffs, the Bucs played the #4 and #2 offenses in the league. They held 2 of 3 teams under 270 yards of offense and in their worst defensive game, they allowed fewer yards (312) than Denver allowed in their best defensive game of the playoffs (315). The Bucs defense created 13 turnovers and gave up 31 total points in the playoffs while scoring 28 on INT returns.
