I imagine it's especially hard if you raise your family in a typical
LDS ward. My experience has been that for the most part, members give you space, but there are always a few who overdo it. I was once briefly in the same ward as Sam Battistone (former Jazz owner), and every Sunday there was a Jazz fanboy who squeezed in next to him in Gospel Doctrine to talk about the Jazz. Battistone was extremely accommodating, but this guy acted like they were best friends, and many times Battistone was clearly uncomfortable and wanting to focus on the lesson (or anything else). To his credit he was very patient.
