I found that starting them off hitting wiffle balls help develop eye ball coordination... also the good old ball on a rope swinging around.... I had a pitching machine that pitched wiffle balls, The little ones were not as scared of them and once they started hitting them i move to real baseballs. Not all the kids turned out to be big hitters but I saw several start out crappy and end as big hitters.
