Trinnaman was a solid BYU commit long ago. When the BYU coaching change occurred, yewts saw an opportunity and made a strong rush on the kid. But he never waivered from his BYU commit. He hung in there and waited until the new coaches were named. Obviously, he was a priority for the new coaching staff and they made sure he was still a lock to BYU.
Handsome, on the other hand actually committed to the yewts last summer. So BYU was not in the running from way back. He was a solid yewt recruit but Kalani, while still at Oregon State kept working on him. As he mentioned today, he has known Kalani since he was 16 so there is some long-term connection there. Around November he went on a visit to OSU and was favorably impressed and may well have been thinking of flipping to OSU. I can't remember all the details as they happened over the last several months but you could look it all up if you want to take the time.
Anyway, in the meantime as we all know, Kalani left OSU for the BYU job. No doubt, one of his first priorities was to bring Handsome on board. So in the process of reassuring Trinnaman, Kalani and the coaches got Handsome to flip to BYU.
