BYUTV sends the signal out to the cable and satellite carriers in HD. It is up to them how they want to broadcast the station. Most of them are reluctant to give BYUTV the bandwidth so they broadcast it in SD. That is why the screen is smaller with black around the edges. If you stream the signal on a ROKU box you will get it in HD.
