I thought of the place in the movie more as a university. A place for the best and brightest to go and work together to reach mankind's highest scientific potential without anything holding them back.

The bad guys wanted the real world to fall away and rot, but the good guys wanted to build Tomorrowland and eventually share it with the world. It was about hope for the future.
