Today I put up the flashed mounting points for the racking. Got pretty windy so I didn't get a chance to put up the racks or panels like I had planned. When tools start blowing off the roof it is time to call it a day. Spent about 3 hours on the roof with 2 helpers.
I've never tried to carefully separate shingles and it was trickier than I had thought. Used a metal putty knife and figured it out after a bit. This tool was awesome for removing roofing nails from the upper row of shingles so the flashing would fit up to the second row. http://www.amazon.com/Dasco-Pro-640-Shingle-24-Inch/dp/B000BQS5QO . After we got into a rhythm it went pretty quick. Put up 38 mounting points today.
Here's the layout I submitted to Orem City for my permit. I drew it in Google SketchUp. http://i.imgur.com/nLqrxG4.jpg
