Why in the world would Texas want to be independent?
Seems like that's what is at play - and it's often mentioned as a possibility. Seems like if Texas refuses to deal, OU could/maybe would go to SEC/B10/PAC/ACC - any of those conferences would all take OU tomorrow.

Nebraska, A&M, Mizzou and Colorado have already proven what being in a league with Texas is like.

So, OU bolts and Texas stays in a depleted Big 12? Uh, no. So what's their play? Go to ACC/SEC/Big/PAC and have to give up the LHN and likely have a HARDER path to the CFP? Uh, no. So what are they doing?

Seems the only conclusion is they want to try Indy to see if they can further maximize profits, play whoever they want and create their own path to the national championship. Or they are calling OU's bluff, and are playing chicken.

When push comes to shove, do we really think they would let OU leave, thus neutering the conference - the conference they control as their fiefdom? Thus destroying the viability of the LHN in any scenario but independence? Isn't this the only logical play for showing their bum to the other schools in the Big12?

The other thing is, if you are the commish of another league and Texas wants in, does the fact they drove OU, Nebraska, Colorado, Mizzou and A&M away bother you enough to pass on them? Or do you allow them in but put them in their place by telling them they are no longer the alpha, and they will not command the clout in (name the conference) they did in the SWC/big 12? Seems like Texas isn't going to go for that. So what is their game?
