There will be very little backlash. A few media outlets will say "hmm, I would
have taken BYU. Oh well, let's talk about these new Big XII members CINCY and Houston." And that will be the end of the BYU talk. Who is gonna hold them accountable? This happened 5 years ago,...backlash hasn't even crossed Bowlsby's mind.
You are right it would further propagate that they are a dysfunctional conference, but public perception obviously isn't something they understand well.
