Spoke with the son of a member of the board of trustees
We went to school years ago. I do not know him super well, but well enough to have a brief text message exchange with him on the subject of BYU to the big12.
I can sum up his attitude by saying that he feels independence has been just peachy, and will continue to be peachy, and the fan base is embarrassing right now. He did not imply that this was the attitude of his father, nor the rest of the governing body of the university.
But.... the apple doesn't usually fall far from the tree. Take it for whatever it is worth, which is probably not much. I will say he is a huge BYU fan.

His opinion has no bearing. Holmoe wouldn't be going all out to secure invitation if BOT was determined to stay indie.
