Seems like it's always a negotiation, but that a MW school would be starting off in a more reasonable spot.

If you're Cinci (as an example) and you go to AAC and say we want the 27 months down to 11 months so we can join the Big 12 fall of 2017 - they are going to say, OK - 10 mill just went up to 20 mill (or some other crazy #). Or they are going to say, no, stay 23 months and join in 2018 and we'll only up it to 12 mill (or some other number slightly more than the original agreement, but still a penelty for leaving sooner than 27 months).

Point is - those teams in AAC have a crappy position from which to negotiate per contracts they've signed.

Also another reason why I think the Big 12 opened up the bidding the way they did - not just to say who will take the least, but also to say, come to us with your best scenario for getting out of your current conference. If CSU can show that they can be out by 2017 with penalties they can obsorb along with reduced earnings as a new Big 12 member - they'd likely have a HUGE advantage over AAC members.
