For your comedic enjoyment. From USU's board:
I understand that things like tv market size are important for the Big 12. Further, I understand it would be bad form to try to "pull a Boise State" and ditch the MWC so soon after joining it. However, I can't help but notice that USU is a better university than many of the candidates who have stated they are interested by a number of measures including:

Utah State vs. other B12 candidates

-- History: Older than NIU, East Carolina, SMU, Memphis, Houston, Boise State, USF, and UCF.
-- Size: More enrolled students than East Carolina, Boise State, Memphis, Northern Illinois, and SMU.
-- Endowment: Wealthier than Colorado State, Memphis, East Carolina, UCF, BYU, Boise State, and Northern Illinois
-- Winning: A better win/loss ratio over the last five years in football than UCF, East Carolina, Colorado State, Memphis, SMU, USF, and UCONN. We also have the same number of wins as BYU during that time period.
-- Academics: A higher Carnegie classification than Boise State. Comparable classification to other interested candidates of a Doctoral granting university with "Higher Research Activity"
-- Stadium size: USU, surprisingly, even isn't home to the smallest stadium. At 24K seats, NIU has the smallest stadium of interested universities.
-- Record vs. interested candidates: We have won the most recent game against a number of interested candidates including vs. NIU (21-14, 2013), Boise State (52-26, 2015), UCF (30-27, 2001), Colorado State (33-18, 2015), and UCONN (38-31).

Further, if BYU is indeed among the Big 12's top universities of consideration, aUtah State is a much more natural travel partner for BYU over Colorado State where we're both near Salt Lake City, have a more established rivalry with each other, and more history with each other than BYU has with Colorado State.

Finally, USU doesn't have a TV station that would cut into the Big 12's ability to be profitable. USU would also not be opposed to playing games on Sunday.

Given these facts, why wouldn't we at least let the Big 12 know we're interested?!? :headscratch:

The previously linked discussion of expansion at USU's message board actually wasn't very delusional, (Byron McNertney, Jul 26, 2016 at 11:42am)
