I'm not an "insider" per say but I occasionally get some morsels of good info from a person that is. Everyone knows that Texas and OU basically run the conference and that the other 8 institutions will bend over backwards within reason to keep those guys happy and the conference together long term. Also not surprising is the wake up call several of these institutions experienced when OU President Boren publicly expressed his concern and dissatisfaction with status quo. Despite this the Board of presidents was one vote short of expansion going into the meeting last week. Bowlsby, the ACC announcements and the data helped move toward the extra vote but more was needed. A certain university basically said they got to choose one of the candidates, ok fine. Another university then said they get to basically choose the other candidate. Umm, well this will require some additional negotiation. Those two universities then agreed that they would not stop additional expansion of #13 and #14 if 6 of the remaining 8 presidents agreed to proceed with going to 14 and two additional candidates could get 6 out of 8 votes. This does not necessarily mean the big12 will go to 14 teams it just means the first two candidates will be chosen by two certain schools. Take this info for what it's worth which really isn't much at this point.
