Coach Sitake Speech Summary
Long-time lurker, first post.

I got invited to a social tonight where Coach Sitake spoke and took some questions. Some of this is old news or rehash from the summer firesides, but there were a few interesting tidbits that seemed worth posting. I didn't have a notepad, so I am probably missing some things.

He started by telling everyone how much he loved BYU and how he wanted to coach longer than Lavell. He talked about how we measure success and compared it to his mission. He shared a few more thoughts that have been shared previously:

- Nu'u Tafisi didn't need to yell because the players were so focused and compliant,
- players should be taught not threatened,
- the staff focussed a lot on strength because football is not a track meet, but is more about power than speed.

He said Tuiaki and Lamb turned down more money to come to BYU because they wanted to be a part of what was going on here.

He thinks Wittingham was so successful getting legacy recruits because the parents saw that he had built a culture based on the principles Lavell used and it was familiar to them.

He said the rivalry game is important, but doesn't want to focus on it in a way that will hurt the team in the games that follow. He compared to it a sibling rivalry.

He said the O-line was big. Lapuaho only gained 4 pounds over the summer, but he liked that because it kept him at 340. The rest of the guys gained 20-30 pounds each.

He is hoping to get reps from Tuiloma in game 1, but won't play him until he is 100%, which means it will likely be closer to mid-season.

He thinks Corbin will make plays, but is difficult to use because he is so tall.

He said Langi is transitioning well to DE because he was fighting to keep his weight down to play LB and compared him to a "more fluid" Nate Orchard.

His biggest question mark for the team is special teams because so much is unsettled. He said they have not settled on a kicker because they have 3 guys they like.

He was a little down on the TE group. Solomone Wolfgramm is being moved to D-line because he isn't picking up the offensive scheme. He implied that we wouldn't see a lot of production there this year but said there are "lots of great commits" at TE that will be coming.

He said the team is in good shape, but that problems like cramps always crop up in the early season. He plans to rotate a lot of players as the team gets accustomed to the season physically.

Overall, he comes across very humble and genuine. He just exudes a love and enthusiasm for coaching, his staff, the players, and the fans. No matter what happens, I'm excited to root for him.
