1) What a great situation for a new coaching staff! Mature and experienced players for you going against teams with much lower returning production/experience.
2) Amazingly, only 3 of our opponents are in the top 2/3rds of all CFB teams. It might be a very good thing that we catch AZ and Utah at the start of the season when they will be looking for new go-to producers. Wish we got Michigan State earlier...
3) What in the world is Rich Rod complaining about BYU's age? How do they even get to 22.5 average age WITHOUT missions? I'm seriously wondering ... That's a 6 month difference in age according to Invictus' data. Someone alert Desmond Howard!
4). I see an interesting trend between the teams with the best recruiting/talent having the lowest average age. MichSt, MissSt, UCLA, and WVU all check in at lower than 21 years. Maybe it could be argued that having a higher average age is actually a disadvantage as it reflects lower talent levels.
5) BYU has a pretty good track record of first-year improvement for incoming new HCs. Lavell, Crowton, and Bronco all had significant improvement (judged by W-L) in their first year of coaching than in the previous year. This might be partially attributable to having more mature, experienced and intelligent players than the average CFB squad.
6). over half of our schedule is against teams that rank in the bottom 18% of returning production. That's astounding! We should be able to win 8-9 games (toughest games will be BSU, MichSt, UCLA) ... especially if Taysom picks right up where he left off in that Nebraska game.
