Anyone out there fly United through O'Hare yesterday returning home from the
game? What a nightmare. We will never make that mistake again. United set us up to fail with a 40 minute layover, where we had to get from Concourse B to Concourse C, plus race another couple hundred yards with luggage to Gate 28. Even under the best of circumstances, making the connection would have been difficult. However, our flight arrived "six minutes early." That's the good news. The bad news, we waited for 50 minutes on the tarmac for a plane already at the gate to pull away. Our pilot kept assuring everyone that United was aware of the issue and that everything would be just dandy. I kept checking the status of our connecting flight to LV - and it was "on time." Then, as we got up to exit, it felt like it took an additional 20 minutes. I have no idea what the holdup was, but we raced to the next gate, only to find that it had already left, and that we were welcome to go stand in line for two hours at United Customer Service to "see what they can do." We got our names on an 11:00 pm standby flight, with a certain flight out this morning. After a frustratingly long wait in the Customer Service line, United said it couldn't do anything for us, but smiled and wished us the best of luck.

We were among three of eight on standby who happened to make the 11:00 pm flight, arriving in LV at 1:30 am. Other Cougar fans left behind decided to just stay at the airport instead of getting a hotel room offered by United, since their flight left at 6:45 am. Meanwhile, those smart enough to take a direct flight from DC to Vegas were dreaming about BYU going undefeated in October and November.

Sorry, I hate complaining about airline experiences, but what we went through with United yesterday was ridiculous. The entire crew from our flight arriving in Chicago was reassuring to everyone that "United is aware and I'm sure you will make your connecting flights." They turned out to be just a bunch of people lying to keep the peace.

Anyway, it's good to be home. My wife said this morning she's already traveled out. It's hard to do this under any circumstances, but especially when you are coming home from another east coast loss. On the bright side, we enjoyed seeing sights in DC and wish we had more time for that.
