Many people are upset with the level of unfair, stupid, and mean spirited opposition to BYU sports. I think there is an opportunity to enlist the support of current BYU supporters and like-minded allies to embark on a dramatic fundraising effort to counterbalance the millions or dollars we are missing because we don't have a Power 5 TV contract.
The BYU Administration has not agreed to create a general endowment to support football. They have agreed to create the Coaches Circle endowment to help fund the salaries of the head football and basketball coaches. The Administration has allowed endowments to be created to fund scores of athletic scholarships, but for some reason, it has not given permission for a general endowment to be created for BYU football.
We need to think big and set a goal of raising at least $100 million for a general BYU football endowment. Even though our beliefs are running against the current, cultural Zeitgeist, there are wealthy people in the U.S. and around the world who share our beliefs and who are appalled at what they see as moral and cultural decline. We have an opportunity to channel these concerns into fundraising dollars.
