Notre Dame's AD Swarbick on the BYU series

Nov 22, 2013

"A year ago September, Notre Dame entered into an agreement with the Atlantic Coast Conference to play five ACC opponents a year, beginning in 2014. That seemingly put the BYU series in jeopardy, because Notre Dame is also committed to playing rivals USC, Stanford and Navy every year. "Quite literally, I have some years where we have 15 or 16 games under contract, if you include the ACC commitment with the deals we previously had," Swarbrick said. "So we are just working our way through that. But in doing that, BYU is a priority."   http://archive.sltrib.com/story.php?ref=/sltrib/cougars/57163562-88/byu-dame-notre-football.html.csp

"Q. What is the nature of the BYU agreement? Has that changed now?

JACK SWARBRICK: Nothing has changed about it at this point. It was two three game groupings, two Notre Dame home games, one at BYU. We've consumed the two Notre Dame home game portion of the first three game set we've got to get out to BYU, then we have another three games. It's conceivable the dates of those may be modified, but we just haven't frankly thought about it or addressed it. We've been focused on this three year window." http://www.und.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/122013aad.html

"Football scheduling

The possible hiatus or end of the Shamrock Series is not the only scheduling uncertainty for the Irish. In 2010, Notre Dame and BYU signed a six-game deal, two in Provo, Utah and four in South Bend. The Cougars have visited the Irish twice since then, but Notre Dame has not added a return game to its slate, and BYU athletic director Tom Holmoe said in February that the remaining four games may not happen and Notre Dame will pay the buyout instead.

Swarbrick said he still hopes to make at least one of the away games happen, but the other three are contingent upon other scheduling conflicts.

“The BYU focus was always on two three-game increments. … Whether we get to the next set of two home and one away, I hope to, but we got to make the scheduling work for that,” Swarbrick said." http://ndsmcobserver.com/2015/12/swarbrick-reflects-fall-semester-athletics/
