What the NCAA should Say to the Big 12.
One of the most gratifying moments of this season had to come last night when Commissioner Bowlsby gives a statement to the effect of "What am I supposed to tell my conference members when they ask the secret formula for playoffs if its not strength of schedule or a championship game?" Followed up by him saying they didn't have a qualified candidate this year, so this was a discussion for future years. Teams getting left out with no clear explanation or answer, huh? Where have I heard this before?

Here's how I respond as Playoff Committee Chair.

"When looking at playoff candidates we received applications from many fine institutions, none of which were solicited by the way. They came to us. At the end of the day, we saw there was no perceived value in adding a Big 12 team. We appreciate their effort in adding a championship game and trying to change their out of conference schedule, but we are tabling consideration of Big 12 teams as serious candidates indefinitely. Not to say we won't open discussion in the future. I have watched football for x years and I can say that I have never seen such a unified decision in keeping the Big 12 out of the playoffs."

If this sounds like sour grapes. . .Oh it is.
