So apparently, Nick posted up on histogram commenting on Saint Mary's "high school gym". Byu has literally the only fan base that is obsessed with crowd sizes of their opponents, but I guess it has to do with not work inning any championships in football and basketball as of late. Despite not winning the WCC, fans have every right to complain about the quality of the competition, but let's stop playing dumb.... commenting about the "high school gyms" in year 6 is not an observation but just a cheap shot that I guess makes people feel better about their teams, as if crowd sizes= tournament bids.
There's a reason Byu hasn't won the WCC regular season yet and Nicks post shows a simple reason... Byu players have taken he cue from the fans to completely disregard the other team's not named Gonzaga. But winning the conference means that games against San Diego are played with the same effort as against the Zags. The comeback against LMU was nice but let's not forget the fact they were down nearly 20!! It seems apparent that Nick Emery has less respect for smaller schools and the play like it sometimes, including at home (UVU?????). Instead of instagramming about the gym, worry about stopping one of the most efficient offenses and trying to avoid the NIT, because there's a whole bunch of small gyms in that tournament. And for the record, I saw Nick Emery in NBA arenas.... not impressed.
Byu has a talented team, but needs to mature in how they handle these games, especially their "leader" if they plan on accomplishing their goals in the LP3 era. And while I'm a die hard Zags fan, Gonzaga was these teams 20 years ago struggling to get fans to come to the games until the famous Cinderella runs. So I will always have a soft spot for these types of basketball schools and will defend them from fan bases who treat them differently. You guys are more than welcomed to continue with the shots, but the comebacks of "what have you won" and "uvu" and the dreaded "NIT" are going to start raining down, and I know that will hurt so much more.
Good luck tonight against the Gaels, I might be openly sensitive to these types of comments, but a little more respect for all teams isn't too much to ask for.
