Granted, it is good PR. Every LDS member engaged in good works boosts the church's image and helps us present the Gospel to the world. But I see little reason to fund BYU athletics with sacred tithing dollars. In fact, if we really were really thinking long-term, some additional graduate programs (like a med school) would be a better PR boost than BYU athletics.
