Blue streak 3rd String
Interesting - but not convincing - unless you're in the impatient antiRose crowd
Who can't realize that rose is responsible for what amounts to a golden age of BYU BBall. How do you measure talent to be able to say BYU has more right now, and how do you evenly compare the effect of missions on both player development and team chemistry? How do you say a coach is great if he has been deep in the tournament recently but only good if it happened 6 seasons ago? Or would Ross be 'great' if perhaps Davies had been able to play and BYU had made the final 4 in a parallel fantasy universe? Rose and any BYU coach has more church specifics hoops to jump thru that any direct comparison is just unfair. I think the composition of our team is absolutely unique on a few levels, and any comparison that anyone would want to make feels utterly hollow.

The facts are, Rose is the winningest coach in BYU history. And if you argue that the talent is better than the result, you must acknowledge that Rose is responsible for improving the talent level in the program. For those of you new to college basketball, recruiting is actually part of the job description of being a coach.

Am I arguing Rose is perfect? Not in the least. But I really think he is arguably the best coach BYU has ever had and I'm grateful to have him.
