I've seen foundation/soil issues in the last two neighborhoods I've lived in.
Neighbor's home in Pleasant Grove had a crack an inch wide in his wall. Builder paid up $75,000 to shore up the house.

Several townhomes down the street from my place in Cedar Hills have issues with sinking foundations. Basement slabs are 1-3" below where they should be. And a house on the street above mine was wiped out by a landslide.

Got my fingers crossed for my new Saratoga Springs pad, but it was built in 1996, so I think I'm good. Paranoid, but good.
