The best research out there shows it IS related to pay, partially. Consider that
we see the same turnover problems outside of Utah where the teachers aren't having as many children or facing the same cultural bias towards emphasizing motherhood. Utah's attrition/turnover % mirrors most of the other states. I have heard the response that it's just wives wanting to be moms, but the data doesn't seem to support that as the major reason.
