The Byu Media deserves a huge "L" for this basketball season
I honestly feel bad for you guys this year not because of how the team struggles, but mainly due to how the media gassed you up to have unrealistic expectations for this team this year. With the LP3 and others coming in I've paid a bit more attention to what Byu talks about throughout the season, especially the weeks before and after the big games (and considering Gonzagas season I really love hearing people talk about them. But from the commentary I've heard this year, I have to say it's a mixed bad of good analysis of head scratching quotes.

You can tell that Coach Cleveland was a former coach because his analysis was spot on all year. I don't know if I've disagreed with anything he's said all year. The other analysts and former players are fine as well for the most part but the one really annoying thing they do is they'll take either a really small sample size against a good team or one game against a bad team and pretty much proclaim that's how they'll play for the rest of the season or lazily presume that holding San Francisco to 25% from the field will equate to doing the same at Saint Mary's.

The one thing that made my skin crawl was this week on Sportsnation they literally asked the question can Byu look ahead of San Diego? You're kidding me right? Not only did San Diego pound Byu a month ago but in what world does an NIT bubble team (no offense) have the right to look down on anyone? And their go to move is that the media and fans can look ahead, which is fine until you demean your opponent or even worse, give the players a sense of entitlement and superiority complex where they feel like they don't even show up for games (San Diego, Santa Clara, Pepperdine). And we know that all athletes watches these kinds of shows because it's human nature to want to know when people are talking about you. There were a million questions to ask and that one was stupid, which judging by Twitter many of you thought the same thing.

But the big problem was the preseason where everyone not only thought they would make the tournament but possibly win the WCC and possibly advance in the tournament. If you remember in the preseason guys like Joe Lunardi said that Byu wouldn't make the tournament and the reaction in the media was "they don't know what they're talking about this is Byu's best team ever". Even my first post here said that Byu was an NIT team this year because of the youth. And outside of the margin of victory in some of these games I can't say I'm too shocked in the season so far for Byu.

But the funniest thing is now that you guys are calling the media out for their predictions and statements they want to go and act like it's the fans fault. They keep bringing up the "youth" and while I do consider it a valid excuse, these guys were the same age they were when the media was hyping them up the way they. Byu has the same bench they've had all season (none) same frontcourt depth (none) and same players on the court that don't fit well together. Dave Rose deserves all the criticism but I honestly don't think he would be on the hot seat from the fans if it wasn't for the media. And for them to sit there and act like Byu fans are impatient, and spoiled, and unrealistic is disingenuous by them because they were the ones who created this LP3 frenzy and you guys simply followed suit. Hopefully they will calm down this off-season and stop the final four talk but who knows.

All I do know is it's not you guys, it's them.
